From London to Bristol, this aspiring young musician has been powering through since she was little. Anusha turned twenty-four last week and seems to have come a long way from her original journey as a dancer at the age of four.

What kind of creative work do you do / hope to do?

I am a singer/ songwriter / poet / events organiser. I always wanted to be a singer but that has grown. Also, I like making clothes or reworking what I have.

How did you start your creative journey? What or who has inspired you?

I began dancing when I was four years old. I guess I just knew I wanted to perform, because I used to sing and write songs when my mum upset me. Looking back it's pretty funny because I was only about five or six. Also watching fashion shows on TV when I was young but i'm not really into high end fashion, I'm talking reworked vintage kind of stuff.

What challenges have you faced along the way and how did you overcome them?

Setting up my first poetry event then COVID-19 hit. It's been tough since then to open up spaces for people to enjoy poetry so I stopped trying.

Any lessons you've learnt? Advice for others (in particular for young people)

Sounds cliché but don't give up. You never know what's around the corner.

Is there any part of creative world you think could be improved / more accessible?

That's hard to say with the pandemic and all that jazz but I guess fighting the corporate schemes that suck you into contracts you don't fully understand. Being exploited as a musician is frequently heard. I guess more people should be aware that this happens.

Any comments / thoughts / rants on social inequality?

More money should be given to musicians for the work that they do. Its not easy you know so big companies like Spotify etc should help to support artists more. That's all though. Oh and young people should never let things get in their way of doing something they love. Go for it!
